'MISSED' - framed acrylic on canvas. 600x600mm A painterly landscape depicts mist in the Eltham valley and is overlaid with grid patterns reminiscent of mosaics or ruins - the view is interrupted.
The shapes are symbolic of all the things that get in the way of truly experiencing nature, the evidence of human invention both physical - (fences, signs, structures...) as well as non physical - (calendars of events and commitments, boxes to tick, screens to fill). While we busily invent our lives, nature's cycle continues...sun comes up, sun goes down. As I created this work I lamented the many mornings I've missed seeing this beautiful view, and the sombre feelings we'll have in the future if we allow the scars of our lifestyle to have a permanent effect on the cycles of nature. 'Missed' Acrylic on canvas, framed in natural, sustainably sourced beech. 600x600mm
